Glamorganballetjes met Spirulina: Een Groene Toets Aan Je Tafel

Glamorgan Balls with Spirulina: A Green Touch to Your Table

Discover a new way to integrate Spirulina into your cooking with this delicious recipe for Glamorgan Balls, a traditional Welsh specialty, now with a unique twist. Enriched with the power of Spirulina, these balls are not only nutritious but also delicious. Follow our simple steps for this original dish.

Ingredients

  • 120 g fresh (whole wheat) bread crumbs
  • 150 g ground cheddar
  • 130 g finely chopped leek or spring onion
  • 6 g fresh finely chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, separated (yolk and white)
  • Breadcrumbs for the coating
  • 6 g Spirulina powder
  • (Optional) 10 g finely chopped shallot

Preparation method

  1. Start by mixing the fresh breadcrumbs with the ground cheddar, finely chopped leek or spring onion, parsley, marjoram, mustard, black pepper, and the egg yolk. Finally, add the Spirulina for that special green boost. The mixture may seem dry at first, but by kneading it lightly you will get the right consistency.
  2. Roll the mixture into balls or sausages. This shape not only gives a nice presentation but also ensures even cooking.
  3. Beat the egg white until frothy. Place the breadcrumbs in a separate bowl. Dip the formed balls first into the egg white and then into the breadcrumbs for a crispy outer layer.
  4. These balls can be fried, fried in a pan or baked in a preheated oven at a medium temperature for 10-15 minutes, depending on your preference. Choose the method that suits you best.

Serve these nutritious Glamorgan balls with a twist of Spirulina as a tasty addition to your meal. Perfect as an appetizing starter, a creative side dish, or even as the star of your main meal when paired with a refreshing salad or seasonal vegetables. For those who like a contrast in flavors, try them with sweet apple sauce or traditional cherries for a surprising combination.

I hope it tastes well!
